The drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas was uneventful except for the rain, which is unusual to see on that stretch of highway running mostly through desert. Earlier this week I looked at the tires on my car, realized they had worn down to baloney skins, and decided they weren’t making the drive to Las … Continue reading Desert rain
After changing our minds twice in the last ten weeks, Kathryn and I made a last-minute decision to resume our traditional weekend-before-Christmas getaway to Las Vegas. We expect to leave in a few hours. I’ll post updates from the road as usual. We’re booked at Gold Coast, one of our long-time haunts. If you’re familiar with … Continue reading Weekend before Christmas tradition
And we’re back in Phoenix after another successful 48-hour road trip to Las Vegas.
Here in Las Vegas, the three of us went out for sushi last night at a Japanese restaurant called Sushi Takashi, located in Chinatown.
Once again, we’re safely home in Phoenix. The weekend really flew by.
We’ve safely arrived at our hotel.
Quick stop for fuel in Kingman and then back on the road.
Yep, it’s another one of those weekends where Kathryn and I are taking a road trip to Las Vegas. As usual, I’ll post frequent updates from the road so our family and friends will know we didn’t disappear into a hole in the middle of the desert. We have reservations at Paris Las Vegas. This … Continue reading Another Vegas road trip
On our last trip to Las Vegas, we decided to stay on Fremont Street for the first time. After exploring our options, we chose Golden Nugget, which is sometimes described as the most Strip-like hotel in the Downtown area. Whether you’d agree depends, I suppose, on what you like or don’t like about the Strip.
One of my favorite treats in Downtown Las Vegas is the deep-fried Oreos at the snack bar at Mermaids, a dumpy little dive of a casino on Fremont Street. The double order Kathryn and I shared this past Saturday afternoon set us back $2.14, tax included. This will almost certainly be our last order, since … Continue reading Enjoying our last deep-fried Oreos at Mermaids in Las Vegas
We’re safely back in Phoenix.
Kathryn and I are currently taking a break from driving and having a cold soda at a McDonald’s in Kingman. We left Las Vegas just over two hours ago and will be on the road again shortly.
We’ve safely arrived in Las Vegas and checked into our hotel. I would have posted an update from Kingman, but for some reason my phone hasn’t had a data connection since I left the Valley. I’m currently using the Wi-Fi in the room. I’m not in a rush to solve the problem right now, but … Continue reading Safely arrived in Las Vegas and checked into our hotel
The road trip is officially underway. I’ve just picked up Kathryn at her place of work. Within an hour or so we might actually be out of Phoenix.
I’m interrupting over four months of blog silence to announce two things: First, I had to transition to a backup phone this morning, meaning my Signal database has a new set of keys. I posted a page with an image of my Signal public key if you’d like to use it for verification. Second, Kathryn … Continue reading Interrupting over four months of blog silence
After one last rest stop in Wickenburg, we’re safely home. Updates and photos will follow soon.
We’re in Kingman, about one third of the way home. We filled up the tank with gas and filled up our bellies with burgers from Five Guys. We’ll be on the road again in a few minutes.
We’ve safely arrived at our hotel, for those of you who care about such things. The drive was uneventful, other than some rain. The wiper blades have seen one too many Arizona summers; I need to remember to replace them when I get home.
Kathryn and I are about to head out the door for another road trip to Las Vegas. Our last trip there was only seven weeks ago. The fact that we’re going again so soon certainly reflects how much we enjoyed the last trip. It’s worth noting that we spent very little time on the Strip … Continue reading On the road again
Shortly before the arrival of our main course at Gordon Ramsay Steak in Las Vegas, my wife Kathryn leaned over to me and said, “This has been a very weird experience.” She was right. The service had been weird. Quite weird. However, the food was more than worth the weird.
Another road trip to Las Vegas gets underway in just a few hours. We’re going to try some new places to eat this weekend, and we’ll return to some old favorites too. As always, you’ll find updates and maybe even a few photos here.
